hello friends,
do post your good memories of your school days and please make this blog active . nay thing that u remember that will refresh the nice school days we had ! and at least we can plan for a get together with our dear teachers in our school after 5- 10 years . so that everyone can make it .
our batch had two divisions a &b and we used to come together for the malayalam classes , even though there were few of em who went for french and hindi classes ! i think it was dipti , pauline and swathy who went for french and there were lot more who took hindi as the second language

hey everyone, try to go down memory lane and and resurrect some comic anecdotes so we can all have a good laugh, but make sure you try to keep in mind the feelings of the people concerned, so try not to mention names. Whether it is a teacher or a student.

i remember this particular incident when we had to dissect a frog , it was nothing for the faint hearted and animal lovers( for whom Mrs Cabot had absolutely no sympathy). i remember her telling them to just get on with it and stop fussing.
Even before the chloroform worked, we got down to our gruesome deed with clumsy fingers, and a shaky heart. The poor creatures at a last attempt at escape gave in to their natures call which brought about shreaks of disgust.Except for the serious and the studious who carried on as if it was the most normal thing to be doing on a fine sunny, breezy day.
After we had pried and poked and examined the poor creature ; some of us pretending to take a closer look in order to avoid Mrs. Cabbots disapproving glare, we were asked to dispose of it. I still remember some of the soft hearted asking if we cant just stitch it up and let it live( perhaps they were the budding surgeons).
Any way due to the lack of needle and thread we had no choice but give it an undignified burial. Its always interesting to watch how each person disposed off the poor creatures. Some tried to hold it under the running water( after all frogs loved water ). Well some of the frogs did come around and weakly hopped a few feet and drew their last breath.Others got a more dignified death, little graves were dug and in went the poor creatures dead or alive, we would never know.
A lucky few got even flowers strewn on their graves. Then there were the
hard hearted, the pranksters, who saved it until lunch time, threw the poor creature over the wall hoping it would hit an unsuspecting IJHS boy on his way to the Gujarati shop to get some snacks. Then there were a handfull of us ,who left it under some bushes and let nature do its job.
Wonder how many of them ate their lunch that day. If we had been in France instead of India we would have eaten a pair of frogs legs for lunch(except the vegetarians).
Wonder if Mrs. Cabbot would have approved!

Its also an hommage to Mrs. Cabot who was one of the best teachers; who tried her best to teach us science. But i am afraid my brains did not think scientifically so all her efforts were wasted on me. But i still remember her with a lot of affection.Beneath that serious face was a just and kind teacher.

Fellow Carmelites, have any of you realised during all those years we studied in Mount Carmel, that we were indeed privileged to have studied in a place filled with history and natural beauty. I only realised when i came to Europe where we have to pay exhorbitant prices to go for a vacation at the sea coast which is not half as beautiful as our coastal regions and the million dollar views we got from the backyard of our school.I have yet to come across a school in Belgium which lies in such a fabulous location. Here the schools are just square brick, buildings, colourless and depressing especially in the winter. Wheras our school looked like the hanging gardens of Babylon with its colourful array of bougainvillea flowers. We were even given our own little gardens to tend for SUPW classes. We could hear the waves gently crashing against the rocks and the soft breeze that cooled us during the warm summer days.
The european tourist would surely envy us. They have to cross seven seas and empty their pockets to come to a destination like that and we had it on our doorstep.

Strange that now life seems to go so fast, but back then the days seemed so long.Always a sigh of relief when the last bell rang.At least some of us looked forward to the extra curricular activities, even a trip to the lab for some experiments was a welcome change from the routine. The ritual of lighting the bunsen burner, counting and arranging the test tubes, fingers itching to begin the experiment even before we finished listening to the instructions.
But one incident i still remember that always brings a smile to my face.
Usually after the experiments we were supposed to wash our testtubes and keep them hidden in the drawer that was given to us. But often the testtubes disappeared. So a very good friend of mine decided to take it home in her schoolbag and completely forgot about it. So for the next class she came to the lab still thinking her tubes were in the drawer. Its only when the teacher asked her she remembered she had kept it in her bag. To the surprise of the teacher she came down with her school bag,"where are you going "asked the teacher" "no, Miss" she answered, "I came down to dust my bag" and there it was her powdered test tubes, looking like it had gone through some drastic experiment.
